The Pretoria Zoo Scrabble Tournament was a huge success and with 54 people (51 Players) we had a bumper turn-out at the fabulous Waterhole conference centre.

As Eland and Sable, and a myriad of birds provided a stunning backdrop, erstwhile scrabble players enjoyed 6 games of scrabble, a tasty lunch and even had time to walk round the zoo rated in the top 5 in the world. Most people I spoke to said they had a real great day and scrabble events of this kind seem to be hugely popular. We were also very pleased to host Monica Schaller and four of her top scrabble players from General Smuts School (Vereeniging).

Solomon Lephto from Cape Town flew up from CPT to play in his first competition and Stephen Peter (who is studying in CPT at the moment) also participated. Others who made their competition debuts included Karen Merry (who finished 3^rd in the social section), Isabel Cooke and Sharon and Danni Dante. It was also wonderful to see Fay Milun who last played in a competition several years ago. What was most gratifying above all was the atmosphere of camaraderie and the friendliness. Many players also indicated that they intended to play in the forthcoming Swaziland Weekend and I would urge those of you who expressed your intention thus to book early.

Special thanks to Europa (Melrose Arch) who provided meal vouchers for prizes, to the Market Theatre who gave theatre tickets as prizes and to Just Fun Toys and Jonathan Ball publishers who donated scrabble sets and books respectively. The results of the PTA Zoo Tournament were as follows:-
