New words
How many times have you been stuck at the end of a game with just the Z and two blanks? And all those times haven’t you just wished for a word like ZZZ?
Or, when you’re ordering pizza, wished that there could be a word that would make the chore of pronouncing both syllables of the word “pizza” a little less onerous?
Good news. SANSPA has adopted the new American words as from January 1st 2007.
These include 3 new two letter words, namely ZA (short for pizza), KI (Chinese for one’s inner spirit), and FE (a Hebrew letter).
The reason for the adoption of the new American words is that they will be used in the world champs and our players need to prepare. Cape Town has started using them too. In Gauteng, lists of the words will be available at competitions (excluding the nationals) and clubs for the first 6 months of 2007 for social and intermediate players. Advanced players will be able to use the lists for the first two competitions of the year only.
Club chairs should get the lists from commitee members and supply their members. A full printed or printable word list is available from Dylan Early, though players are cautioned that if and when the Collins words are accepted, this word list will be out of date.
